Let’s Go Watch Meteor Shower drama (一起来看流星雨)

Upon browsing the web to find out what other dramas are airing in various parts of the world, I realised that Let’s Go Watch Meteor Shower has already started. For those of you who have never heard of it, this is like Mainland China’s version of Hana Yori Dango.

Like many people, my first reaction when I heard about this was, “What??? ” and I didn’t bother getting more information about it. I mean there’s already 3 5 versions (thanks to zx for the tip) of Hana Yori Dango: Hana Yori Dango film during the 90′s, Hana Yori Dango (the anime), Taiwanese (Meteor Garden), Japanese (Hana Yori Dango) and Korean (Boys Over Flowers)… the Korean version being my personal favourite. The Taiwanese one sucked, only watched a few minutes into the drama and gave up. It’s partially because it had too many episodes for me to bother watching them all. The Japanese version was rather good, short and to the point. I love it how you got to see Makino’s wedding to Domyouji in Hana Yori Dango Final.

I must admit that after researching online and watching the trailer, the storyline looks more interesting. Unlike all the other versions that stuck mainly to the manga, with few alterations that make each version unique, Let’s Go Watch Meteor Shower has a whole new storyline to it. Instead of sticking mainly to the love plot of Shan Cai/Makino/Jan Di and Dao Ming/Domyouji/Jun Pyo, this drama focuses on the H4 (not F4) growing up to be mature, responsible adults in society.

Here’s the synopsis:

Chu Yuxun, the lead character of the series is a poor, hardworking, smart high-school girl. One of her biggest dream is to enter the most prestigious school in the country, Aliceton University where only the richest and the best students can study. With the help from her uncle, she finally gets in unbearingly that she might meet the group H4.

Yun Hai, Duan Mu Lei, Shangguan Ruiqian and Ye Shuo are the four richest students of Aliceton and known as the campus popular group H4. They became the idols of all the girls and even boys in the campus because of their attitude, power and looks. However, they are unsatisfied with their life as their parents puts so much pressure on them being the richest in China. In order for them to be kicked out from Aliceton University, they perform a series of pranks.

Yuxun fights for justice for the victims of the group and she become their instant target. Through fighting and arguing, they began to admire each other and became friends. Touched by Yuxun, H4 eventually becomes the top four students of the school. At the same time, they became loving, responsible males. Through the multiple struggles and hardships, Yuxun and H4 grew up. They learned to control their own lives, chose their own futures, and to strive for their dreams.

The actors are pretty new and unknown (not too bad looking either), although I don’t pay much attention to actors from mainland China. Zheng Shuang stars as Chu Yuyun (Geum Jan Di/Makino Tsukushi/Shan Cai), Zhang Han stars as Murong Yunhai (Gu Junpyo /Domyouji Tsukasa/Dao Ming Si), Yu Haoming as Duan Mu Lei (Yoon Jihoo/Hanazawa Rui /Hua Ze Lei), Wei Chen as Ye Shuo (So Yijung/Nishikado Soujiro/Xi Men), Zhu Zixiao as Shangguan Ruiqian (Song Woobin/Mimasaka Akira/Mei Zuo).

I haven’t watched it yet, but will try to do so soon. It’s gonna take some time watching all of it, as there are many episodes.
